It's so great to see you back on my blog...Kyla,

Hi! It's so great to see you back on my blog! Welcome. :)

I was not using this verse to explain my stance on feminine clothing! I never mentioned skirts or dresses when referring to this verse. Please go to these links:

http://byhisgraceandforhisglory.blogspot.com/2008/01/bible-guidelines-about-clothing-by.html

http://byhisgraceandforhisglory.blogspot.com/2008/02/respose-to-comments-received-regarding.html

where I do speak on my stance on what females should wear, and why I believe that to be the case, both Biblically and culturally.

I believe that 1 Corinthians 11 makes it clear that women are not to have short hair. A woman's hair is to be her glory, and is given to her for a covering.

Thank you for your comments, Kyla! :) As I said, it's great to have you back on my blog!

May the Lord richly bless you!

RebekahMiss Rebekah Ann S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04269150765888375195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105226992849497642.post-80824249439148556742008-02-29T11:18:00.000-05:002008-02-29T11:18:00.000-05:00Hi Rebekah, I have been checking in on your blog a...Hi Rebekah,

I have been checking in on your blog and I wanted to jump in on this verse and your response to Perplexity.

I find it interesting that you take this verse to mean that women should wear dresses only. It doens't say "dresses only" and in fact culturally men and women wore robes. Dresses and skirts for women only is a western idea. Femininity looks different in other culturals or areas of the world. However your explanation for the braided hair is all about cultural circumstance.
Why is it ok to use cultural reasoning when discussing hair but not when discussing other verses that pertain to women's roles or dress?

Do you think that woman can follow this verse and have short hair and wear pants? Why or Why not?

I am not trying to be tacky or cause trouble but I do think that it is important to clear up these obvious contradictions and omissions.
KylaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105226992849497642.post-57684451773156377712008-02-27T18:53:00.000-05:002008-02-27T18:53:00.000-05:00Perplexity, That's such a great question! I'm glad...Perplexity,

That's such a great question! I'm glad you brought it up. I recently listened to a Bible study messege set that I have on this very passage. At the time of the writing of this passage of Scripture, very wealthy women would come to church with their hair braided. They would wind ribbons of gold into the braids as a way to flaunt their wealth. That's why this verse says what it does. There's nothing wrong with braided hair in and of itself, but when it's done in such a way as to be alluring or to flaunt one's wealth, then it becomes a problem!

Once again, thank you for your comment! :)

Many blessings,
RebekahMiss Rebekah Ann S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/04269150765888375195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105226992849497642.post-36546357273123316692008-02-27T18:33:00.000-05:002008-02-27T18:33:00.000-05:00...not with braided hair...I find that part of thi......not with braided hair...

I find that part of this verse interesting. I know more devoutly religious women who wear their hair braided than non religious women. My aunt, who hasn't worn anything other than dresses the entire time I've known her (about 22 years) and is vocal about her desire for modesty, and her bible based reasons for said modesty, has also never been seen by our family without her hair in a braid.

I'm just curious why the modest dress portion of this verse is so strongly felt and believed and acted upon, but not the braided hair aspect?

I'm seriously asking, not being contradictory.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9105226992849497642.post-12727128085585974292008-02-27T18:10:00.000-05:002008-02-27T18:10:00.000-05:00So true, Leah!
