Show and Tell Friday!

I'm so sorry, but I completely forgot all about Show and Tell for about 3 weeks! :( I'm finally going to be a part of Show and Tell again. :)

This is a book by William Sprague, who was a Presbyterian minister in the 1800s. This book is entitled Lectures to Young People. I also have another book by him, which is entitled Letters on Practical Subjects to a Daughter. The book pictured here was published in 1835! It's almost 200 years old, but is still in pretty good condition. I often wonder about the history of this book-afterall, it was published way before Abraham Lincoln was even president!! I'm so glad I was lucky enough to find this book-it's so neat to own such a very old book!

I hope you enjoyed my Show and Tell, and I want to thank you for stopping by! For more great stories, head on over to Kelli's blog!

  7. The book is in great condition for its age. There are many old books that were published back then to give advice. Mom has one that gives many household tips. One article included is how to do the wash. The book was published with new brides in mind. Maybe Mom will let me take a photo of the book one of these days. Thanks so much for sharing. The book is a real treasure.

  11. That is so incredible! I have an old book collection, but none of them are THAT old! What a treasure!

One of my show and tell posts shows my old book collection, and then last week, I showed something almost as old as your book, but not quite! A Sunday school paper that was in the family since 1853- and I said the same thing...before Lincoln! It boggles the mind.

But wow...to leaf through the pages of this book you have and wonder who first read it almost 175 years ago is amazing! Thanks for sharing!

    Mary,

How neat!! That sounds like a great book! The books back in the 1800s were usually far better than the kind of books that are written today!

    Kristy Jo,
Oh, me too! I love old things!!

    Jane,
Yes, I'm sure! I can't wait to begin reading it!!

    Tammy,

How neat!! Aren't old things like that just so cool? I love just thinking about how it's history may have been!!

    Pea,
Yes, I do wish that!! :)

Thank you to all you dear ladies who have taken the time to stop by and comment!! :)
