Paul Washer Mocks Modern Gospel
Great video showing why the common message of "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life" is a dangerous, unBiblical one.
Belief in Christ as the Son of God, trust in His finished work on the cross, and sadness over and repentance of your sins is what is crucial!

Also, thank you for sharing this short talk from Mr. Washer. Wow! His words are so true, yet I feel many don't even believe them.

ReplyDeleteDid you watch the video? I think it would help to explain the problem with the "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life" type of "evangelism" so common today.
When we are dealing with unbelievers, we are dealing with people who are lost and dying in their sins (their total depravity). We are talking with people who are enemies of God and upon whom the wrath of God rests. They do not need to hear "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life". That statement can be well, fine, and good perhaps, but not when it is how we seek to evangelize. God is indeed love, but sinners will have no true realization of the depth of His love unless they first understand His holiness, their sinfulness, His judgment and wrath against sin, as well as His mercy and grace. Sinners have to be brought to where they realize their sinfulness and inability to do anything at all to save themselves or somehow please God through "righteous acts". If what we primarily say to the lost is "God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life", then their response will be much like what Mr. Washer described. They will not realize the direness of their sin in comparison with the holiness of God, and will therefore not see the need they have of being saved.

Ooh, I see; the problem is narrowing God's message down to just that and giving it to unbelievers, letting them believe in a motivation seminar rather than a cleansing relationship with God that will require them to change and sacrifice. Got it. Thanks :)
