Wonderful Devotional!

I wrote a devotional for this very verse on Friday. My dear friend Leah did as well, and I want to share it with you. It is far better that mine was, and is so encouraging and challenging! You will soon discover when you read it that God has already granted her much wisdom! I pray that you will be as blessed by this wonderful devotional as I was!

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."~James 1:5

I just love this verse. My beau once said that something to the effect that we shouldn't ask God for anything that isn't in His will. I really thought about that for a long time and then I began to change my prayers from frivolous, and selfish prayers to prayers about the will of God. I also began to think when I prayed whether or not my prayer was something I wanted God to do to fix something, or whether my prayers were truly seeking God's will even if I found it to be unpleasant. I think that something safe to pray for for whatever reason is wisdom. This verse clearly states that if you ask God for wisdom, He will give liberally and without reproach. I find this so comforting to know that if you are asking God for wisdom, discernment, and discretion, He will give it to you. Wisdom not only benefits you, however, wisdom will benefit everyone around you AND will bring glory to God.

I feel that this verse about praying for wisdom is a good model for when we are praying about something we desire: Is it in God's will? (Even if you don't know, will it line up with His Word?) Will is bring Glory to Him? Will it benefit others, not only yourself?

I just find these to be some of the things I think about when I pray so that I can stay as unselfish as possible in my heart. I don't think that I am inherently good at humility so maybe through prayers like these I can further decrease, that Christ may increase in my life.
